A new doc I’m Tryna Tell Ya by champions of the East London underground Tim and Barry, which sees the DJs, photographers and filmmakers head to Chicago to document the nascent footwork scene, is screening at the ICA London next Saturday November 15.

In spring 2012, a bunch of people involved with Tim and Barry’s Don’t Watch That TV – the channel that live streams bass, house and grime artists from all over the world as part of their show Just Jam (which predates Boiler Room, fyi) – headed to Chicago to catch up with ‘key players on the scene’ like DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn, who had featured on Just Jam previously and invited them over.

In a press release Tim and Barry, who just won a MOBO for the £80 video they made for Skepta, said: “We were just blown away by what was there. The relationship between dancers and producers was so close, working together so tightly, it was like the relationship between MCs and producers in the early days of grime, just really exciting.”
