Joy and rage at Trans Pride London – in photos

On 9 July, around 15,000 people took part in the fourth annual London Trans Pride. Attendees carried signs, such as ones reading “TERFS OUT” and “Protect trans kids”, while they shouted chants calling for better healthcare and recognition that trans rights are human rights.
This year’s march was filled with joy and celebration, but also rage towards a Conservative government that has scrapped vital gender recognition law reforms and excluded trans people from a conversion therapy ban. The Tory leadership contest has already descended into a row about trans rights, with candidates using it as an opportunity to punch down.
Protestors gathered at Wellington Arch and marched to Soho Square for a rally, where the likes of Nadia Whittome MP, author Charlie Craggs, Kae Tempest, and Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney delivered powerful speeches. Finney, speaking to the crowd in Soho, said: “Boris, I hope you see Heartstopper, I hope you see Doctor Who, because I exist, and I know you know I exist. We all exist, and we’re not going anywhere!”
