Dismantle the cis-tem — With over 100,000 attendees, the Saturday march was the largest trans pride event ever in world history. Cheer Up Luv’s Eliza Hatch captured the action, and recounts its powerful energy.
This Saturday I joined London Trans+ Pride, which saw its biggest turnout yet with over 100,000+ people taking to the streets to protest against the dehumanising treatment of trans folk in this country and to demand trans rights now.
I joined the protest to march in solidarity with the trans community, and to take a stand against the fear mongering, misinformation and exclusionary policies and sentiments which have dominated the media landscape and our society as of late.
I also wanted to capture the energy of the day, which was filled with a palpable mixture of hope, joy and allyship and the very real undercurrent of bittersweet rage, resilience and resistance. The louder transphobia becomes in the media, society and politics, the louder we will show up and rally against it.
The resounding chant from the day, which has stayed with me since, was: “I believe that we will win.”
