In an age where ‘food culture’ is dominated by TV presenters, celebrity chefs and fast food chains, New Foodies brings real people making real food to the forefront.
In this second episode, we meet Sarah Bentley, the founder of East London local food kitchen, Made in Hackney.
Based in Stoke Newington, Made in Hackney is a non-profit organisation that teaches all range of food-based skills to the local community based around sustainability and social justice. This includes running courses in growing organic food, seasonal and plant-based cookery, and composting.
Says Bentley: “[Made in Hackney] is an amazing community kitchen geared around giving people skills in plant-based, local, seasonal, organic food. We’re grounded in political views: environmental sustainability, teaching people skills to reclaim our food systems from corporate companies. […] We’re very focused on organic principles and teaching people about the benefits of organic and how people on a low income can access organic food.”
