Man & Sea

Wood, Water and Waves — Artisan craftsman Brian Himlan creates hand built wooden boards from his workshop in Santa Cruz.

The vast ocean that ebbs and flows against the shores of northern California has always been a source of pleasure and inspiration for local surfer Brian Himlan.

Through his company longshipdesign, he brings together his love for the sea with a lifetime’s woodworking experience.

At his shop in Santa Cruz, Brian creates beautiful handcrafted wooden bellyboards and handplanes that allow people to have fun in the waves, even when conditions are bad.
