Huck Indies — How surf and skate inspired two Bay Area friends to build a hub of creativity

It began with two Bay Area high school friends putting their artwork on tees and has since grown into a sprawling compound of cool centered on surf and skate. Nate McCarthy and Will Hutchinson have spent the last decade building Proof Lab up from nothing to become a hub of creativity complete with a skate ramp, music studio, carpentry workshops and a cafe to fuel up on caffeine.

“They’re not afraid to throw something at the wall and see if it sticks,” says Pat Foster, the resident skate buyer who also helped craft the indoor ramp. Proof Lab has become a hub where people of all ages come to learn and pass on what they know.

Any time there’s wood or other materials lying around, Nate and Will put them to use to try out some new idea. Stoked on Proof Lab’s DIY approach, Huck headed out to Mill Valley, California.

Head over to Proof Lab Surf Shop to find out more.
