Can you believe anything you see in a photograph?
In photography’s early years, many seized on the camera’s ability to produce what appears like a faithful reproduction of life and believed they could use it to capture objective truths. But as time has passed, few have failed to recognise the medium’s immense subjectivity.
Photographer and filmmaker Tyrone Lebon’s new documentary Reely and Truly digs deeper into the idea of truth and images. Through interviews with photographers working in art, fashion and photojournalism, including Petra Collins, Nobuyoshi Araki and Jill Freedman, Lebon attempts to answer the question: how much can we believe what we see?
