Mimpi (which means ‘dream’ in Indonesian) is a four-day surf/skate film fest that ran November 21-24, 2013, in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Organised by Crocco Studio Design and cool culture magazine Void, Mimpi 2013 (the second-ever edition) attracted more than 4000 people to the Complex – a dope skatepark-meets-cinema-meets-skate shop-meets Mexican restaurant – last month for a sensory bonanza that included shredding, boozing and film-watching.
With a mission statement to “create an environment to discuss, learn, have fun and develop ideas about the surf and skate scene”, more than 60 movies were played and judged by local heroes Fabiano Rodrigues – a popular skater, photographer and artist – and Julio Adler – a surfer, writer and producer who has worked on video for OFF, Brazil’s leading action sports channel.
Before the bands, DJs, markets, films, barbeques and parties descended on the Complex, MIMPI also hosted a course ‘Making Memories’ with creative education outfit Perestroika, which featured a crew of surf filmmakers, photographers, producers and more sharing their industry secrets with young upstarts.
